YOUR TICKET TO AN INTERVIEW - YOUR RESUME
November 11th, 2005
Your resume should be a “sales tool”, encouraging the person who reads it to pick up the phone to ask you more questions! Too often resumes are “job descriptions” that give too much detail and not enough reason for someone to want to meet you.
Here are some great tips to improve your resume…..
TIP #1
If you use a job objective, customize it often to fit the specific opportunities you are seeking.
TIP #2
Make sure you have proofread your resume. Many interviews are lost due to errors on the resume.
TIP #3
List DATES. Employers assume you have gaps in employment or an unstable work history when dates
are alleviated.
TIP #4
Under each employer, list a short paragraph describing what you did and then have three bullets that state your personal accomplishments. List your accomplishments and the impact they had on your employer.
TIP #5
List your computer skills, computer proficiency is required in most opportunities.
TIP #6
Take off fluff i.e. hobbies, interests
TIP #7
Limit your resume to one page.
TIP #8
Put: References provided upon request at the bottom of your resume.
TIP #10
Go back only ten years, unless there are specific skills and experience prior to that time you need listed
for a particular opportunity.
You do not need to spend hundreds of dollars having a resume professionally done. Follow these tips and your resume will become a “TICKET TO INTERVIEWS”!
