SHOULD I TEMP?
April 11th, 2006
I’m asked this questions often by individuals who are NOT currently working. It really depends on your individual situation. If you need money, working temp can provide you with an income while you are searching for your next opportunity.
Many employers like to “try before they buy.” You would be amazed how many people start out in a temporary position and end up getting hired. It is also a way for you to observe the company culture, interact with the employees and meet your future supervisor in the working environment. Often you can acquire new skills and experiences that enhance your resume. This also gives you “current” work experience which does help with your salary negotiations.
If you decide to work temp just make sure your employer knows you plan to continue interviewing for full-time positions. You can accomplish these over your lunch hour.
This is an alternative you should at least research during your job search!
